The Fat Lute recently closed down but the owner has returned and the site is on a temp. domain here: http://www.thefatlute.eu/

Other sites I have been using are:

http://w11.zetaboards.com/ABC_Music_Source/index/

Please feel free to ask questions/make suggestions and stir the music pot.

I did this a long while ago on my main forum it helped so I carry it around.

One of my favourite game mechanics is that which enables us to play musical instruments. When I found out about this I spent three days doing nothing else but standing on tables and chairs inside and outside Bree playing a plethora of tunes!

Many people have asked me, "How do you do that?" Or even, "You play so well!" (thinking that I am doing it on my keyboard). As a matter of fact it is possible to use an electronic keyboard to play in-game instruments, if you have your keyboard connected to your PC via studio sound-card. I have my electric guitar connected via a Line6 Pod but haven't found a way to get that to work:p

Anyway. The reality is as simple as ABC, literally. The game is able to 'read' music via an 'ABC' file. This is compiled using Notepad and then the extension is edited to *.ABC. There are many websites on-line where musical sheets have been written by skilled players, all you need to do is copy your favourite music into your own notepad file, place it in 'Users/Documents/Lord of the rings online/Music' and edit the extension to *.ABC.

To make this easy for everyone I shall include a picture guide of the entire process!

Gwenrith, the Rockstar of Lindon wants to learn some new music!

She uses Google, the new library down the road to search for ABC files and finds a nice book called http://www.thefatlute.com/Home.aspx

Copy the music and instrument of your choice into a text file within the directory 'C:/Users/yourname/My Documents/Lord of the Rings Online/Music'

Save the file as the song title with no spaces, and making sure your extensions are shown:

Edit the extension from *.txt to *.ABC.

Re-enter the game (note this can be done while the game is still open, so you can alt-tab or simply window your applications).

You are now in music mode, now type /play 'nameofthefile' like so:

Play the music, and smile!

There is one more thing however! You may have seen bands playing and wonder how they do it? Or you wish to start your own band?

All you need to do is make sure every band member has the same file but for their particular instrument. Get into a fellowship, follow the above process but include 'sync' after the title of the song. This way, all band members will play the same file and in sync!
